Making buildings run smarter

ABOUT

99% of commercial buildings* have an inefficient, obsolete energy system. The Runwise platform optimizes an apartment's heating and cooling system for comfort, energy efficiency and safety.

Until now, heating, cooling and water control infrastructure in commercial or residential buildings required dozens of expensive and independent devices with miles of wiring. Herbst partnered with Runwise to totally reinterpret and modernize building control. We designed a single powerful and intelligent building controller with 100% wireless sensors and relays that bring buildings into the modern age. Managing air and water, the modular system detects leaks and hazards to improve tenant safety. Runwise has saved building owners over $100 million in energy costs (and an additional $100 million in fines!) while reducing over 253,000 tons of CO2 gas emissions. Herbst designed a comprehensive hardware ecosystem with a bold and iconic visual design language for use in both the industrial boiler basement and the residential living room. Our design process considers the dynamic needs of the installation engineer, the building manager and the tenant. Runwise is currently in use in over 8000 buildings throughout the US.
